The home teams had a strong showing on Saturday in the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League. The Sabres St. Pölten delivered a convincing 8-0 shutout win against the Lakers Kärnten, who were heavily short-handed traveling to St. Pölten. The standout players of the game were Lena Artner and Kinga Jokai-Szilagyi, each recording two goals and two assists. With this win, the Sabres St. Pölten remain within striking distance of the win2day AWHL leaders, the KSV Highlanders, while the Lakers Kärnten dropped to fourth place in the standings.

The DEC Salzburg Eagles celebrated an important 4-0 home win over the EC Graz Huskies, overtaking the Styrian team in the standings. After a hard-fought and scoreless first period, Zoey Hobitsch opened the scoring while shorthanded early in the second. Agnese Aspite secured the win with a two-goal performance later in the game.

Narrow Wins for Silesia and Bratislava in the EWHL

In the two additional European Women’s Hockey League games, Tauron Metropolia Silesia and HK PSRZ Bratislava both recorded narrow victories. Silesia, entering the matchup as the winless underdog, faced the KSV Highlanders, a team firmly positioned in the upper half of the standings. After a scoreless first period, Silesia took the lead on a power play. The Polish team managed to protect their lead well into the game. Just when the three points seemed secured, Hilde Huisman scored late for the Highlanders, forcing overtime. The extra frame went goalless, but Silesia held their nerve in the shootout to claim their first win of the season.

The second pure EWHL matchup was similarly thrilling. The hosts from Bratislava took a first-period lead on the power play, but MAC Budapest equalized during a power play in the middle frame. With just over three minutes remaining, Erna Tothova scored the game-winning goal. Bratislava stays within striking distance of league leaders Aisulu Almaty.
