Both Vienna and Ljubljana lost their season opener last week. While the Capitals suffered a tight defeat against league leaders Sterzing, the champions lost to EC-KAC II at home. On Friday Henrik Neubauer, Phil Lakos and Fabio Artner strengthened the Vienna roster and the hosts came out hard. In the 11th minute Emil Lindblom opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period. Soon after restart the Caps received the first penalty of the game but Olimpija could not score. As the Caps also were not able to add a second in two power play opportunites, it remained 1:0 after two periods. Ljubljana could not move up a gear in the third and they also lost their second game, being still without goal scored. In the final minute Lindblom scored an empty netter for a 2:0 final result. The Capitals earned their first Alps Hockey League win with goalie Max Zimmermann posting a shutout.
