The Alps Hockey League celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. How has the level of play evolved since its early days?
Simon Kostner: “I think the overall level has evened out compared to the first couple of years. Back then, the Italian and Slovenian teams were generally a bit ahead of the Austrian teams. In recent years, though, the competition has become much more balanced.”

What has been your personal highlight in the Alps Hockey League so far?
Simon Kostner: “That´s easy: our two championships – in the very first season and then again two years ago.”

Which rivalries make the league special, and what are your season highlights?
Simon Kostner: “The derby games are always special. Right now, Sterzing is a big one, and Cortina has developed into a bit of a rivalry for us as well. And Asiago has always been a tough opponent. We’ve had some great battles with them in the past, and I’m looking forward to more this season.”

You already mentioned Asiago. In the season opener you’ll face the league returnee against you’ve had many great battles with in the past. What will be the key factors for a successful start to the anniversary season?
Simon Kostner: “Starting the season with a win would, of course, be great. Asiago has a good team, we know many of their local players, and now they also bring two years of experience at a higher level. They’ll be strong, no doubt, but it will be fun to face them again. I’m really looking forward to the game.”

With what expectations are you heading into the anniversary season?
Simon Kostner: “The same as every year: we want to go as far as possible. It’s still early, and we’ll see where we stand, but I believe we have a strong team and a good chance to compete at the top again.”

All games of the new Alps Hockey League season will be streamed live on www.valcome.tv. To watch all the games of your team during the Regular Season and the Master/Qualification Round, there is a special Team Pass available for only €99.
