Zell am See started the new year with a 3:0 home win over Gardena, with eleven wins from 14 games, the Pinzgau side is the best home team in the league. Kitzbühel beat Cortina on Thursday after shoot-out, with the Tyroleans currently having a ten-point advantage to sixth place. Kitzbühel also has the best offence in the league. The first two duels of the season were both played in Tyrol, with each team picking up a win.

After the shootout defeat in Kitzbühel, fifth-placed Cortina still have a four-point lead over sixth-placed Sisak - but the Croatians have played three games less. The upcoming home game against Unterland is therefore particularly important for Kai Suikkanen's team. The Cavaliers have recently suffered three defeats - each time conceding five goals - and dropped to ninth place. The teams have already faced each other twice this season, with Unterland winning both games.

Sisak celebrated a comeback victory in their first game of the new year, coming back from 3:1 down to beat Celje 4:3. Now they travel to bottom of the table side Gardena. They have only won one of their last eight games. Sisak won the first two season meetings.

Three more matches on Sunday
On Sunday, league leaders Jesenice face Bregenzerwald at home. The Slovenians have won all eight AHL home games against the Vorarlberg side so far. Bregenzerwald, for whom this is the first game of the new year, have lacked consistency so far - they are already 15 points behind the top five.

Celje and Merano are looking to get back on track in their clash. The Slovenians have lost their last six games and are now only in tenth place. Merano have lost four in a row and the South Tyroleans are currently in eighth place. Merano has won all six AHL duels so far, including the first two this season.

The encounter between Sterzing and Ritten also promises to be very exciting. With ten wins from their last 13 games, the Broncos have improved from the bottom of the table to seventh, just five points off the top five. The reigning champions have won their last three games and are in third place. While the first duel of the season went to Ritten 9:5, Sterzing won 5:1 on the road a month ago.
