Short text 496 CharactersPlain text

The sixth game seven in the history of the Alps Hockey League is coming up on Saturday - and for the third time, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps are part of the deciding game. It is the first game seven for HC Meran/o Pircher. The “Eagles” are in the quarter-finals for only the second time ever. The Alps Hockey League is not always played in a “best-of-7” format, which is why this is already the 14th series in the multinational league, which was founded in 2016, to be decided in the very last game.

HC Meran/o Pircher beat the Rittner Buam SkyAlps 2:0 at home on Thursday, forcing the defending champions into an all-important game seven, which will be played on Saturday at 18:00 in the Ritten Arena (live on valcome.tv). It will be the third game seven in the history of the league for the “Buam”. Last season, they prevailed in the semi-finals against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan in the deciding game after trailing 1:3 in the series.

In the 2018 final against Asiago, Ritten also had to play a game seven, but lost it 5:7. It was one of two finals series to date that went the full distance of seven games. In the 2019 final, Ljubljana crowned themselves AHL champions for the first of two times with a 3:1 away win at Pustertal in the seventh game. In the 2019 playoffs, the quarter-final between Red Bull Hockey Juniors and Lustenau also went the full distance, with the Vorarlberg side winning the decider 3:2.

The Juniors also had to play a deciding game in the 2023 semi-final, but were again unable to win it. The Salzburg team lost 3:4 at home against S.G. Cortina Hafro.

In the Alps Hockey League, the playoffs are not always played in a “best-of-7” format, but sometimes also in a “best-of-5” format. A total of eight series have gone to a fifth deciding game so far. Ritten has had to go to a deciding game five once so far, in the 2022 quarter-finals, which the two-time AHL champions won 5:1 against Cortina.
