On October 19, 2024, the Heidi Horten Arena in Klagenfurt will be the venue for a special event. On this day, the Lakers Carinthia will face the EC Graz Huskies in a charity game of the win2day Austrian Women's Hockey League. But this time it's about more than sporting rivalry and points. Under the motto "Pink the Rink", the entire game will be dedicated to solidarity with cancer patients and their families. All proceeds will go to Krebshilfe Kärnten.

The sporting goal of the Lakers is to further establish women's ice hockey in Carinthia and to inspire young girls to play ice hockey. The team is also aiming for a good position in the international and national championships. But "Pink the Rink" makes it clear that the team is also a role model outside of sport. In collaboration with Theresa Neumann, the head of Krebshilfe Kärnten, the Lakers have dedicated the entire month of October to solidarity with those affected by cancer.

The campaign focuses on the Pink Ribbon campaign, which draws attention to the importance of early detection of breast cancer and at the same time calls for the disease to be removed from the taboo. "We are on the side of those affected and their families," says the Lakers' team captain. "With our sport, we can draw attention to the issue and promote a healthy lifestyle at the same time."

The game on October 19 starts at 4:30 pm, admission is from 3:45 pm. In addition to the ice hockey game, spectators can also expect an extensive supporting program. The proceeds from the donations will go directly to Krebshilfe Kärnten, which supports cancer patients and their families throughout Carinthia. "This initiative is an important contribution to helping people in one of the most difficult phases of their lives," explains Theresa Neumann. "Every donation and every visitor helps us to give courage and support to those affected."
