Start of the Alps Hockey League quarterfinals

The first quarterfinal games in the Alps Hockey League are scheduled for Tuesday. Regular season champion Rittner Buam SkyAlps will face the EC Bregenzerwald. Last year's finalist S.G. Cortina Hafro will have to deal with the HC Meran/o Pircher. In addition, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors and the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers will face each other and the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan will meet the EK Die Zeller Eisbären. All series are played in a "best-of-7" mode. All postseason matches are available in the livestream on valcome.tv. With the "Playoff Pass", all games from the quarterfinals to the decisive final can be streamed for €50.

Tue, 05.03.2024, 19:15: Red Bull Hockey Juniors - Hockey Unterland Cavaliers

The Red Bull Hockey Juniors will face the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers in the quarterfinals, as they did last season. Back then, the Juniors won 4:0, but in two games they were only able to decide the game in overtime. This is the fourth quarterfinal appearance for the current Austrian AHL champion and the second quarterfinal qualification for the Cavaliers in their second AHL season. In the Pre-Playoffs, the team from Neumarkt beat Gherdeina 2:0. The Juniors finished the Master Round in third place. In direct comparison, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors won both season duels. Overall, the Young Bulls have a clear 9:1 lead in the H2H.

The fourth-placed Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan could not choose their opponent for the quarterfinals and therefore have to deal with the EK Die Zeller Eisbären. This is the fourth playoff qualification in a row for the Broncos and the fifth in the league's history. However, they have not yet made it to the semifinals. Zell am See is in the quarterfinals of the Alps Hockey League for the second time. In the 2021/22 season, they narrowly lost 2:3 to the EHC Lustenau. Neither team has been in good form recently, with just one win from their last five games. Last week, however, the "Polar Bears" were still active on the transfer market and strengthened their squad for the decisive phase of the season with Jacob Pfeffer from the Moser Medical Graz99ers, as well as Niki Hartl, Bernhard Posch and Mathias Böhm from the spusu Vienna Capitals. Zell am See has won three out of four encounters with Sterzing this season. Overall, the team from Pinzgau leads the H2H with 11:9.

Master Round champion Rittner Buam SkyAlps were the first team to choose their opponent for the quarterfinals and took the sixth-placed team of the Master Round, the EC Bregenzerwald. While the ECB are in the quarterfinals of the Alps Hockey League for the first time, this is Ritten's sixth quarterfinal appearance. The South Tyroleans finished the Regular Season in first place for the first time since the 2016/17 season. Back then they even became AHL champions for the only time to date. In the current season, the "Buam" have won three out of four encounters with the Vorarlberg team. RIT leads the H2H by a total of 13:5 and the last time the two teams faced each other was on February 22 in Ritten. The home side narrowly prevailed 4:3. It was one of an impressive ten wins in a row for Ritten across all competitions. Bregenzerwald have not won any of their last three games.

In the fourth and last quarterfinal duel, last year's finalists S.G. Cortina Hafro and quarterfinal newcomer HC Meran/o Pircher will face each other. HCM beat Kitzbühel 2:1 in the Pre-Playoffs. Pascal Brunner scored the decisive goal in the decider three minutes before the end of the third period. Cortina finished the Master Round in second place, the best result ever in the Alps Hockey League. Overall, it is the sixth quarterfinal appearance for the Italians, who have won one of their two duels with Merano this season. Overall, SGC lead the H2H with 4:2.
