The semifinal series between KHL Sisak and HC Meran/o Pircher cannot begin as originally scheduled on Thursday. The reason is a high number of ill players on Meran’s side, meaning the Italian team is currently unable to field the minimum roster of ten skaters plus one goaltender. The series will now start with a doubleheader in Sisak on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29. The second semifinal series between defending champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären and HC Gherdeina valgardena.it, however, will begin as planned on Thursday at 19:30 in Zell am See and will be broadcast live on Valcome.tv.

HC Meran/o Pircher informed the Alps Hockey League that a Thursday start would not be possible due to the number of illness cases. Following consultation between the league’s medical officer and Meran’s team doctors, Sisak was also informed of the situation. On Wednesday, a video call took place involving league representatives and both clubs.

During this call, the following procedure was agreed upon by all parties: The series will start with a doubleheader in Sisak on March 28 and 29. This will be followed by two games in Meran on Wednesday, April 1, and Thursday, April 2. Any additional games, if necessary, will be played on the originally scheduled dates.

Zell am See to open semifinal series against Gherdeina on Thursday
EK Die Zeller Eisbären will begin their semifinal series against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it as scheduled on Thursday. The defending champions defeated Sterzing 4–1 in their quarterfinal series and have since had a longer break. Their opponents, Gherdeina, were still in action on Tuesday, edging Salzburg 3–2 in overtime in Game 7 to secure their first-ever semifinal appearance. Previously, the quarterfinals (2021 and 2022) had marked the end of their playoff runs. Zell am See reached the semifinals for the first time last season and went on to win the championship.
Zell am See enter the series as favorites. However, Gherdeina has won two of the three head-to-head matchups this season – both on home ice (3–0, 3–1). In Zell am See, they suffered a heavy 1–7 defeat on December 18. Overall, Gherdeina has won only two of their last ten away games against the Polar Bears.
