Successful preseason start of HCB Südtirol Alperia

With beating DEL club ERC Ingolstadt 4:1 at Vinschgau Cup, two-time champion HCB Südtirol Alperia had a successful start into the preseason. The spusu Vienna Capitals celebrated a huge victory in their last scrimmage ahead of Champions Hockey League, as they outclassed Eisbären Berlin (GER) 8:3. While the EC Panaceo VSV won Friday’s lone league internal battle, the HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie” remain unbeaten. The EC Red Bull Salzburg and the EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz both had to take defeats.

„Foxes“ open preseason with a clear win
As Erste Bank Eishockey Liga’s last team, the HCB Südtirol Alperia opened the preseason on Friday. The two-times champion took on German side ERC Ingolstadt, snatching up a 4:1 victory at Vinschgau Cup. Especially in the first two frames the foxes showed a good game, with new arrival Anthony Bardaro opening the scoring after not even two minutes and Ivan Deluca doubling up late in the first. In the second Sébastien Silvestre and Angelo Miceli decided the game on an early stage. About 20 seconds to go in the last, the German side made the consolidation goal on 5:3-situation.

VSV wins league internal duel
After Thursday’s harsh defeat in Bled against Grenoble, the EC Panaceo VSV defeated league rival Hydro Fehérvár AV19 2:1 in the second game of the group stage. Kevin Schmidt and Miika Lahti gave the Austrian side a 2:0 lead after 40 minutes. Early in the second the Hungarian side pulled on back, thanks to Mikko Lehtonen. In the final minutes VSV goalie Brandon Maxwell, who returned in the line-up, and a good effort during PK’s gave Villach the fourth preseason win. On Saturday Fehérvár takes on Grenoble in the last game of the group stage.

Salzburg lost opener of Red Bull Salute
The Malmö Redhawks had the better start into the game and took the lead after only three minutes. In the middle of the first period Salzburg increased pressure and got rewarded. Alexander Pallestrang found Chad Kolarik who tied the game in the 14th minute. Salzburg created some more chances in the first period, but they couldn’t capture the lead at this time. The hosts kept the momentum in the second period. In the 26th minute Lukas Schreier played a long pass to Kolarik who created the 2:1 in the second try. The Swedes recaptured the control and increased pressure. A powerplay at the end of the second period brought the equalizer. In the final period Dominique Heinrich missed the chance for the lead. Malmö acted more efficient and captured the lead in the 47th minute. Only two minutes later the Swedes even increased the lead with a well-placed shot. Salzburg put all eggs in one basket and Thomas Raffl managed to narrow the gap in powerplay without goalie. But Malmö found the final decision with an empty netter and won 5:3. Salzburg will face IFK Helsinki tomorrow at 4 pm.

Innsbruck remains unbeaten
After the opening win against Bietigheim Steelers past Sunday, the HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie” won the second scrimmage too and remain unbeaten. The “sharks” defeated DEL2 champion Ravensburg Towerstars 4:3. New arrival Jesper Thörnberg gave the Tyrolese a 1:0 lead after the first. Again Thörnberg and Lukas Bär made it more comfortable in the middle period, while Tyler Spurgeon hit the game winner in the last. On Sunday, both teams face each other again.

Shutout defeat for Linz at Augsburg

The EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz suffered a shutout defeat at Augsburg Panther, losing 0:3 in the end. It was Upper Austrian’s second preseason loss. The hosts, which participate in Champions Hockey League next week, were well-adjusted in the first frame, leading 2:0 after 20 minutes. The further frames were played on eye-level, till Augsburg hit a third one late in the last.

Vienna outclasses Berlin in last preseason game
About one week before the opening game in the Champions Hockey League, the spusu Vienna Capitals outclassed Eisbären Berlin 8:3 in Vienna’s last home game. Sondre Olden, Ty Loney and Ali Wukovits, who played for the first time this preparatory campaign after his injury, gave the vice champion a comfortable lead after the first. The Caps kept up game-speed and presser in the middle frame and doubled up, leading 6:0 after 40 minutes, as Olden scoring his second goal and Riley Holzapfel making a brace. Early in the last the German side pulled two back, got another on the scoreboard – answered by two more goals of the Austrian side.
