The Steinbach Black Wings Linz confirmed their fine form in the preseason, claiming a 3-1 win in their traditional clash with Ceske Budejovice. After falling behind early, the Upper Austrians turned the game around in the second period with goals from Emil Romig and Graham Knott. In an intense final frame, Budejovice pushed hard for the equalizer but were repeatedly denied by goaltender Rasmus Tirronen. Two minutes before the end, Raffael Aigner sealed the win with an empty-net goal. With their third victory in four preseason games, Linz also ended a six-year losing streak against the Czech side.

The evening was far less successful for the Vienna Capitals, who fell 0-7 on the road against HC Slovan Bratislava. Despite numerous chances and an overall shot advantage of 42-33, the Capitals could not find the back of the net. While Slovan goalie Patrik Andrisik stopped every attempt, Turner Elson proved to be the game-winner for the Slovaks with four goals. Miroslav Preisinger, Tomas Kralovic and Samuel Solensky added tallies of their own. The Capitals will have a quick chance to bounce back on Saturday, when they host HK Dukla Trencin.
