Christoph Draschkowitz (#7) of Vienna Capitals Silver, time 56:28, made contact with an opponent deemed as Kneeing, IIHF Rule 50. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 2 – ‘Reckless’ – a deliberate and/or dangerous action with no concern for the result, with a conscious action to provoke, through intent and a willful purpose. Injury is not the determining factor but can be considered as influential means to the decision.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the AHL PSC, player Christoph Draschkowitz (#7) of Vienna Capitals Silver will receive supplementary discipline under rule 50 – Kneeing.

On Saturday night, October 23rd, in Graz an incident occurred, deemed as kneeing.

As the video shows, EKZ Player #14, Henrik Neubauer is in possession of the puck in the attacking zone, when Vienna Capitals Silver #7, Christoph Draschkowitz attempted to make a body check on him. With Neubauer skating behind the net and cutting towards the slot area, he is in the process of making a right turn, which naturally has his left leg extended out. But it has been determined Neubauer left leg extension, is nothing out of the ordinary and is a natural part of turning.

With Draschkowitz reacting and hoping to cut the skating lane off of Neubauer, it is conceivable that a body check can and will occur. However, either a regard to play the puck or making a legal body to body check is required. In the incident, Draschkowitz prepares to make a check by leading with his left leg. The left leg of Draschkowitz is the primary contact point, leading to a direct leg on leg contact. Furthermore, there was no body to body contact, which lead to the leg of Neubauer absorbing the full contact.
The knee incident did cause an apparent injury.
