On September 15th 2017 in Bozen, a situation occurred involving Dornbirn player #15 Christopher D'Alvise. The situation was sent to the EBEL Player Safety Committee (PSC), who determined that supplementary discipline is required. During play, #15-Christopher D'Alvise had a hooking action by an opposing player, #91 at the blue line. Immediately following, Christopher D'Alvise looked at the opposing player, who was not in the possession of the puck, and made a choice to use his stick in a dangerous and aggressive manner to the chest area of the opposing player #91. The stick action was raised to supplementary discipline due to Christopher D'Alvise (#15) using the tip of the blade of his stick to inflict punishment, which is deemed spearing.
The PSC deemed the spearing action as reckless – a deliberate and/or dangerous action with no concern for the result, with a conscious action to provoke, through intent and a willful purpose. Deemed, a conscious decision for the purpose to inflict punishment that may be deemed by the on ice Officials as a major penalty.
