Suspension for Dominique Heinrich

Dominque Heinrich of EC Red Bull Salzburg got suspended for 3 games by the DOPS because of spearing. During Sundays game against the EC-KAC Heinrich made in the 29th minute a contact with an opponent deemed as Spearing.

According to the Arbitrator and after reviewing video evidence, player Dominique Heinrich (#91) of EC Red Bull Salzburg, time 28:42, made contact with an opponent deemed as Spearing IIHF Rule 161.As per the EBEL Fundamental Rules V. 5,1 (b), video evidence was sent to PSC(IDOPS) for a final verdict.
 
From the perspective of DOPS, the EBEL PSC has conclusively deemed that Dominique Heinrich (#91) demonstrated a motion on the opposing player that is defined in the IIHF Rule Book as Spearing.
 
The opposing player made a legal body check on Dominique Heinrich. Due to the body check; the EBEL PSC has determined that Dominique Heinrich speared the opposing player in retaliation of the body check. As the video shows, shortly after the body check and on the same shift, Dominique Heinrich positioned himself in front of the Salzburg net in a stationary position. As the opposing player skates in the vicinity of Dominique Heinrich, he speared the opposing player in the mid section of his body making contact with intent. The spear in conclusive based on the position of the stick, the small wind-up to propel the stick in a 'stab' like motion directly into the opposing player and it is evident that Dominique Heinrich looked at and was fully aware of the opposing player approaching. The opposing player was not in possession of the puck; was aware of Dominique Heinrich presence's, but was unaware of an impending spearing action. Spearing is considered a serious offense that can seriously injure and recklessly endanger an opponent. Based on the determination of the EBEL PSC, Dominique Heinrich is suspended for 3 games, effective immediately.

Dominique Heinrich (#91) of EC Red Bull Salzburg is suspended for 3 games, effective immediately
and fined €600.00.
