According to the Arbitrator and after reviewing video evidence, player Mike Aviani (#93) of KHL Medvescak Zagreb, in Quarterfinal 4 in Linz on Friday, March 16th 2018, time 47:54, made contact with an opponent deemed as cross checking, IIHF Rule 127. As per the 2017/18 EBEL GameBook Part I - Chapter III - § 10, video evidence was sent to PSC (IDOPS) for a final verdict.

An incident occurred on March 16th in Linz, involving Zagreb player #93 Mike Aviani, deemed cross checking. The incident was sent to the EBEL PSC and determined supplementary discipline is required. With the score going to 6-2 immediately before, Mike Aviani began the next shift in an aggressive manner. The first infraction was a slash directly to the area of the hands of the Linz goal tender, with no regard for the puck where a 2 min minor penalty is warranted.  On the same shift and shortly after in his own defensive zone, Mike Aviani crossed checked an opposing player where a 5/GM is warranted, immediately followed by an aggressor style series of punches directed at the opposing players head, where a 5/GM is warranted for being an aggressor in a 1 man fight. The opposing player was not engaged or willing to participate in such actions.  The actions of Mike Aviani during this shift are considered unacceptable.
The reason for supplementary discipline is for the cross check. Mike Aviani at the goal line, with the puck, has his sights set on the oncoming opposing player.  After the pass back, Mike Aviani instantly prepares for the oncoming opposing player, maintaining a consistent sight line to the opposing player.  With the opposing player about a meter away, Mike Aviani raises his stick up and in a cross checking manner.  The cross check was delivered in a forceful manner, breaking his stick in 2, directly to the area of the opposing players head/neck area.  In addition and immediately after, Mike Aviani delivered a solid right hand directly at the head of the opposing player, followed by more punches.

Effective immediately, Mike Aviani  (#93) is suspended for 3 games.  2 game suspension for the cross checking incident and 1 game under the EBEL repeat offender rule, for a total of 3 games.
