EK Zeller Eisbären (in Feldkirch) and the Red Bull Hockey Juniors (in Kitzbühel) celebrated road-wins in the Alps Hockey League in Austrian clashes on Saturday. Plus: Rittner Buam and HC Pustertal Wolves made it into the Italian Final in Asiago on Sunday.
Sat, 10.02.2018: FBI VEU Feldkirch vs. EK Zeller Eisbären 3:4 (1:0,2:1,0:3)
FBI VEU Feldkirch was the more dangerous team in the beginning, but the guests had their chances as well. Finally Niklas Tikkinen‘s Power Play goal gave the Vorarlberger a 1:0-lead. The hosts extended their lead in period 2 with goals from Diethard Winzig and Dylan Stanley. This was a wake-up-call for the guests. Fabian Scholz found Franz Wilfan in the offensive zone and he netted the 1:3. The Polar Bears took the momentum into the last period. The Pinzgauer were on fire now and turned the game with goals from Frederik Widen (solo) in a Power Play, Gregor Koblar and Franz Wilfan.
Sat, 10.02.2018: EC “Die Adler” Stadtwerke Kitzbühel vs. Red Bull Hockey Juniors 2:6 (0:1,2:1,0:4)
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors had a perfect start into the game in Kitzbühel. Dario Winkler netted the first goal after just 289 seconds. The two teams played on an equal level then and had their chances as well. The Eagles tied the game with an early Power Play goal in period 2. The Red Bulls stayed unimpressed and responded just three minutes later – 2:1. The Mozart Citizens were the dominating team on the ice, but Kitzbühel managed to tie the game with a goal from Henrik Eriksson. In the last period the Red Bull Hockey Juniors were on fire in the last nine minutes: Klöckl (51.), Soramies (53.), Kittinger (55.) and Wachter (60.) all netted a goal and gave the Red Bull Hockey Juniors a clear 6:2-win in Kitzbühel. The Mozart Citizens moved up in the ranking to place 9, the Eagles are out of the Playoff race.
Rittner Buam and Bruneck made it into the Italian Final
Rittner Buam and HC Pustertal Wolves will face each other in the Italian Final in Asiago on Sunday (19:00). The Champion beat WSV Sterzing Broncos Weihenstephan in a close semifinal 4:3 after Overtime. The "Wolves" won a high scoring game against Asiago 6:4.
