EC-KAC has the chance to qualify for the finals in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga for the first time since the 2012/13-season on Sunday! The Red Jackets won on Friday semifinal number 5 at Salzburg with 4:3 after Overtime and lead now in the series 3:2. Manuel Geier and Co. miss now just one win for the finals. The first chance to reach the finals the Carinthians have on Sunday at home. In the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (since the 2003/04-season) so far four clubs could win a Playoff-series after beeing back 0:2 with 4:2. This were HC Orli Znojmo vs. Dornbirner EC (QF 2016), the UPC Vienna Capitals vs. Fehervar AV 19 (QF 2015), EC Red Bull Salzburg vs. Dornbirner EC (QF 2014), EC Red Bull Salzburg vs. EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz (Finals 2010) and KHL Medvescak Zagreb vs. Moser Medical Graz99ers (QF 2010). So EC-KAC has the chance to make history: The Carinthians could be the first club, who succeed this in the semifinals. But take attention: In the last Playoff-clash between this clubs - in the Quarterfinals 2015/16 - EC-KAC lost game 6 against EC Red Bull Salzburg at home after winning the games 3, 4 and 5 before! „We have now three wins, but we need another victory. We will give everything again on Sunday, to get this fourth win also“, reported KAC-Headcoach Mike Pellegrims. Last time the Carinthians won four times in a row against EC Red Bull Salzburg was in the 2008/09-season.
Champion EC Red Bull Salzburg must win on Sunday semifinals number 6 at Klagenfurt to extend their season. The Mozart Citizens lost on Friday game 5 at home against EC-KAC 3:4 after Overtime and are now suddenly back in the series with 2:3! Another defeat would mean „holidays“ for the Red Bulls, while a road-win would bring the best-of-seven-series a last time back to the Mozart City on Tuesday. „Each player must do his job on Sunday. We have to play as a team and eyerybody must give eyerything once again“, knows Salzburgs Headcoach Greg Poss. In the last Playoff-clash with EC-KAC (QF 2016) the Red Bulls were able to win game 6 at Klagenfurt and then also game 7 at home after losing three times in a row before. Besides the team of Greg Poss never lost so far four games in a row this season. And when having a match on March 26th the Red Bulls so far always left the ice as the winner, inter alia twice against EC-KAC (2015 and 2009) and once against EC VSV (2006). Klagenfurt on the other side was so far just once on a March 26 successful and this was in the year 2004 at Graz.
A key-factor could be the first goal of the game again on Sunday. In the last nine clashes between Klagenfurt and Salzburg won that team, that scored the 1:0.
