Alex Caffi (#30) of BEMER VEU Feldkirch, time 47:40, made contact with an opponent deemed as Head-Butting, IIHF Rule 47. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 2 – ‘Reckless’ – a deliberate and/or dangerous action with no concern for the result, with a conscious action to provoke, through intent and a willful purpose. Injury is not the determining factor but can be considered as influential means to the decision.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the AHL PSC, player Alex Caffi (#30) of BEMER VEU Feldkirch will receive supplementary discipline under rule 47 – Head-Butting.

On Saturday night, November 6th, in Merano an incident occurred, deemed as head-butting.

Immediately following a Meran/o Pircher goal, an incident occurred, which began with the actions of BEMER VEU Feldkirch Goaltender #30 Alex Caffi. After the goal, which brought a stoppage in play, Caffi instigated the initial start of the series of actions that prevailed, with a bump of a Meran/o Pircher player. The bump is not considered worthy of anything in regards to supplementary discipline. However, the bump action is then followed up with a head butt to Meran/o Pircher player #84 Devin Didiomete, which is deemed worthy of supplementary discipline.

As the video shows, Caffi uses his head in a physical manner, with his goal mask on, to head butt Didiomete in the head area. At no time is head butting a legal action. But consideration for a goaltender who has a full mask on, elevates the danger level. The PSC determined the head butt is a recklessly endangering action, with no concern for the result.
