Three games suspension for Alex Zecchetto

Alex Zecchetto (#80) of Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, time approx. 48:25, made physical contact with a referee deemed as Physical of Abuse of Officials – IIHF Rule 40. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 2 .

Saturday night, March 14, 2026, in Zell am See, Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan forward #80 Alex Zecchetto was involved in an incident resulting in a contact with a referee.

Following a body check along the boards on the timekeeper’s side near the attacking blue line, Zecchetto gets up from the ice and begins skating towards his team bench. While proceeding towards the bench, Zecchetto collides with a referee, causing the official to fall to the ice.

This is Physical Abuse of Officials.

On-ice officials must be able to move freely and safely in order to properly officiate the game. Players are responsible for maintaining awareness of their surroundings and must avoid any physical contact with referees whenever possible.

In this situation, Zecchetto has a clear line of sight toward the referee and sufficient time and space to avoid the official. Instead of adjusting his skating path to avoid the referee, Zecchetto continues on a direct trajectory that results in contact with the official and causes the referee to fall to the ice.

As a result, and effective immediately, the Alps Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Alex Zecchetto (#80) for 3 games.
