Three games suspension for Moritz Matzka

Moritz Matzka (#8) of EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, time 11:03, made contact with an opponent deemed as Kneeing, IIHF Rule 50. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 2 – ‘Reckess’ – a deliberate and/or dangerous action with no concern for the result, with a conscious action to provoke, through intent and a willful purpose. Injury is not the determining factor but can be considered as influential means to the decision.

Saturday night, November 4th, in Jesenice Kitzbühel D'Man #8 Moritz Matzka was involved in an incident, deemed as Kneeing, on Jesenice D'Man #17 Miha Logar, resulting in an apparent injury. There was no penalty call on the ice. As the video shows, play is in the attacking zone of Jesenice with Logar, after receiving a pass, in possession of the puck and circling in the corner. Matzka, after getting a new stick from his player's bench is skating towards Logar and attempting to make a body check on him. With Logar being in a normal skating manner, Matzka is leading into this hit with his knee first, resulting in direct leg on leg contact.

This is kneeing.

It is important to note, on this play it is assumed Matzka is trying to cut off the skating lane of Logar and it is conceivable that a body check can and will occur. However, either a regard to play the puck or making a legal body to body check is required. In the incident, Matzka prepares to make a check by leading with his right leg. The right leg of Matzka is the primary contact point, leading to a direct leg on leg contact. Furthermore, there was no body to body contact, which lead to the leg of Logar absorbing the full contact.

Effective immediately, Moritz Matzka of EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, is suspended for 3 games. 2
games suspension for the current incident and 1 additional game as a repeat offender.
