Three Shutouts on Sunday & Raffl wins “anniversary game” for Salzburg

With the EC Panaceo VSV, the EC-KAC and the EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz three teams succeeded without no goal against in Sunday’s Erste Bank Eishockey Liga games and narrowed the gap to third place in standings. Thomas Raffl gave the EC Red Bull Salzburg in its 1000th Erste Bank Eishockey Liga game a tight 2:1 OT-win against spusu Vienna Capitals. Further, the HC Orli Znojmo stayed in touch to the fourth place, after beating Hydro Fehérvár AV19 at home.

Salzburg wins thriller in anniversary game
Double Anniversary in the top game – the EC Red Bull Salzburg as well as the spusu Vienna Capitals had their 1000th game in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. Before the game Thomas Raffl was honored with the “Auto Eisner story of the month” award. Raffl scored ten goals in October and is the leading goal scorer of the league. Also in this game it was Raffl who opened the scoring. After a chance of the Caps, Raffl scored the 1:0 in powerplay. Still in the first period the Caps were able to tie the game. Alex Wall took the puck volley to equalize the game. Both teams focused on defensive in the following. After a second period with no goals the Capitals created good chances in the crunch-time of the third period. After that the hosts could put high put pressure onto Ryan Zapolski in the final seconds of regular time during a powerplay situation but couldn’t score either. In the overtime former Capitals goalie J.P. Lamoureux shined with good saves. Thomas Raffl finally brought the decision for Salzburg only 10 seconds before the end. With his second goal of the night Raffl captured the two points for his team in the anniversary game. After the sixths win in the past seven games and the simultaneous loss of the Foxes, Salzburg increased their lead in the standings.



Second Shutout for Villach against Graz

In the second season encounter with the Moser Medical Graz99ers, the EC Panaceo VSV posted another shutout-win. After the 5:0 on October 20th, the “eagles” cheered a 2:0 on the road, with Jerry Pollastrone scoring both goals: the first 56 seconds left in the first, the second on empty net, which makes him to Villach’s second best scorer in the running season, where Brandon Maxwell got his third shutout, after saving 28. Graz, which had Matt Garbowsky back instead of Colton Yellow Horn, had to take the third consecutive defeat and trails five in standings to fifth place.



EC-KAC celebrats Shutout too

Reigning champion EC-KAC booked its fourth shutout-win this season, with David Madlener having his third in tonight’s 3:0 home-win against HCB Südtirol Alperia. The Carinthians cheered the sixth consecutive home-win against the “foxes”. Johannes Bischofberger got the host on the scoreboard after 122 seconds – and Klagenfurt continued with a lot of pressure, rewarded by Manuel Ganahl (44.) early in the last. An empty net goal by Siim Liivik rounded off the score. With the first season-win over the South Tyrolean, the “Rotjacken” narrowed the gap to second-placed “foxes” to two points.



David Kickert with tonight’s third shutout

In EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz’s clearcut 6:0 home-win against the Dornbirn Bulldogs, David Kickert managed his third shutout in the running season. Brian Lebler (8.), Stefan Gaffal (11.) and Raphael Wolf (25.) gave the Upper Austrians a good start into the game, which made Dragan Umicevic safe with a brace in the middle frame. With points gained in the ninth consecutive home-game, Linz reduced the deficit in standings to second-placed Bolzano to two points.

Znojmo stays in touch to top-5
After the 4:3 home-win against Hydro Fehérvár AV19, the HC Orli Znojmo stayed in touch to seventh placed Graz, trailing only one point in standings, and missing six to the top-5. After a non-goal opening frame, the game was tied at two after 40 minutes, as Philip McRae turned it home for the hosts with a brace within four minutes. Dispite Tim Campell pulled one back on PP later, the Hungarian side had to accept the second straight season loss against the “eagles”.
