With HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie, HCB Südtirol Alperia and EC Red Bull Salzburg three teams are still undefeated after the third round of the win2day ICE Hockey League, while the EC-KAC and HK SZ Olimpija each celebrated their first win of the season.
On Saturday, the win2day ICE Hockey League will continue with two games: Live on PULS24, HC Pustertal Wölfe will host Steinbach Black Wings Linz. In the second game, Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV will face each other.
HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie defended their lead in the win2day ICE Hockey League on Saturday with another strong offensive performance, as the Tyroleans cruised past the Moser Medical Graz99ers with 6-1. A double powerplay at the end of the first let the "Sharks" score for the first time and later Tyler Coulter shown with an outstanding performance: The Canadian was involved in four of the other five Innsbruck goals, scored twice himself and stepped up as the match-winner. Viktor Granholm, who scored in his third game of the season too, could not prevent Graz’ second loss.
Bolzano and Salzburg make it three out of three too
HCB Südtirol Alperia gained a win after regulation also in its third home game of this season. Against Steinbach Black Wings Linz, the two-time league champions celebrated a 2-1 home victory. Newcomer Brad McClure (7.) soon put the "Foxes" in the lead, with Christian Thomas (55.) another new arrival doubled late in the final period. In between and until a few seconds before the end Andreas Bernard (30 saves) showed strong performance. His second shutout in his second outing of the season was averted only 30 seconds left by Logan Roe.
EC Red Bull Salzburg prolonged their winning streak on the road as well, fluffing Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey's home opener with a 5-3 victory. The Italians kept pace with the champions for a long time, taking the lead twice through Bryce Misley (27.) and Luc Moncada (47.). But the Champions Hockey League participants from Austria had the better of the play in the end, as a strong solo run by Benjamin Nissner (56.) brought the 4-3 lead and the preliminary decision.
First season wins for KAC and Ljubljana
For the first time this season, EC-KAC and HK SZ Olimpija cheered a win. The "Rotjacken" won after their two opening defeats in their third game of the season with 4-0 at the spusu Vienna Capitals. In front of a sold-out rink of more than 7,000 spectators, first the retirement ceremony for Phil Lakos was celebrated, who announced his career end in the summer after 19 seasons with the Caps - then the Carinthians got off to a perfect start: after less than 200 seconds, the "Rotjacken" were already 2-0 ahead, both times the puck slipped through Stefan Steen's legs. About halfway through the game Thomas Vallant (32.) then scored for the preliminary decision. Kraus rounded off the scoring with an empty-netter. For Sebastian Dahm (25 saves) it was the first shutout of the season.
HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana also celebrated its first win of the season, winning 3-2 at Hydro Fehérvár AV19. The "Dragons" took the lead just 24 seconds left in the second through Aleksandar Magovac, who blocked AVS goalie Olivier Roy's clearing attempt - and always had an answer ready for the Hungarians' two-time equalizer. The game-winner was scored by Tadej Cimzar 62 seconds before the end.
