Tjaš Lesničar: “It’s always fun to play against your former team”

Tjaš Lesničar spent his entire youth career in Jesenice and also took his first steps at the professional level with his hometown club before making the move to KHL Sisak during last season. The 22-year-old forward is now a permanent part of the Croatian side – and, as fate would have it, he will face his former club in the very first game of the new season. In the interview, Lesničar talks about settling in at Sisak, the team’s ambitions for the upcoming campaign and the special reunion with his former teammates in the season opener.

You made the move to Sisak during last season. How excited are you to now be a permanent part of the team and start a full season with the club?
Tjaš Lesničar: “I’m happy to be here again. The atmosphere here in Sisak is great, so I’m very glad to have signed another contract with the club and I’m excited for the new season. I think we’re ready to take the next step and compete for the title. We have a very good and deep team this year, and I think we’re going to have a strong season.”

You’ll face your former team Jesenice right in the season opener. How special is it for you to play against your old teammates, especially in the very first game of the season?
“It’s always fun to play against your former team. I still have friends playing there, so it’s going to be special, but also a tough game. I’m really excited for it and for our home opener. I hope we’ll have a packed arena and a great atmosphere.”
