Tom Barrasso has achieved something that "you don't even dream of as a child". The 58-year-old was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame last week. For the former goalkeeper, it is "the highest honor a North American hockey player can receive."

It has been known for some time that the two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The official ceremony, which was broadcast nationwide in Canada, took place last Tuesday, November 14. A special and emotional moment for the native of Boston, MA: "Giving a speech in front of a national audience is of course something special and of course you are a little nervous. But it's a great opportunity to thank so many people who have been with me my whole career."

Barrasso played a total of 896 NHL games for the Buffalo Sabres, the Pittsburg Penguins, the Ottawa Senators, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Carolina Hurricanes and the St. Louis Blues. The 190cm tall former goaltender found out about the Hall of Fame induction from his agent: "My agent told me that the Hall of Fame comitee want my phone number because I'm going to be in the Hall of Fame. To be honest, I wasn't expecting that. But of course the honor is huge and it's an experience that makes you feel humble. There is no greater honor than being inducted into the Hall of Fame."

Barrasso is not satisfied with his team's performance

The American has now returned to Asiago. This is Barrasso's sixth season as head coach of the northern Italian side. He is not satisfied with the current form of his team, which is in eleventh place in the table and has only won one of its last seven games in regulation: "We certainly had higher expectations for this season. Every team in the league has improved. We couldn't keep up with the pace of the other clubs. Compared to last season, we are only one point better at the moment. We still have to improve significantly, but luckily we still have enough games to do so."
The team from Veneto is having a particularly difficult time away from home. Last Friday, they managed their first away win since January 22 at the spusu Vienna Capitals (5:4/OT). The following day, Asiago suffered a clear 2:10 defeat at Hydro Fehérvár AV19. For Barrasso, there are several reasons why his team has such a hard time on the road: "We're a team with a small budget and also have to travel the most kilometers of any team for an away game. We haven't performed badly away from home at times and have even picked up a few points, but unfortunately it hasn't been enough to win after 60 minutes."

This week, Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey are only in action on Sunday at home against reigning champion EC Red Bull Salzburg. They have one win out of five against the Red Bulls in the win2day ICE Hockey League so far. Salzburg won the first game of the season 4:2 at home.
