Colin Jacobs (#71) of Hydro Fehervar AV19, time 37:07 was involved in an incident deemed as Interference (IIHF Rule 56). The video evidence was sent to the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 - 'Careless'.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, Colin Jacobs (#71) of Hydro Fehervar AV19, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 56 – Interference.

On the evening of October 24th, in Szekesfehervar, an interference incident occurred involving Fehervar player #71 Colin Jacobs on Klagenfurt forward #8 Nick Petersen. The incident was sent to the ICEHL PSC and determined supplementary discipline is required under Category 1 – ‘Careless’.

As the video shows; with KAC in the process of a D'zone break out, Nick Petersen received an outlet pass. Immediately, Petersen made a move around a Fehervar player, which caused Petersen to take board side and then take a skating lane away from the boards. Considering the skating angle and Petersen being a right hand shot, with Colin Jacobs approaching from the left side, it may appear unsuspecting, but is not deemed the cause or reason of supplementary discipline. Reading the play from the middle of the ice, Colin Jacobs picks up speed to make a back checking play. The skating speed, which lead to the result of a hard body check, is also considered no cause for supplementary discipline.

What is the cause and reason for supplementary discipline is the timing of the check. When Petersen released the puck, Jacobs was located a considerable distance from Petersen. It has been determined that Jacobs had time to alter, change or minimize contact. Instead, Jacobs used and maintained his speed to make a late check. Considering the check is delivered late, it is also deemed an excessive check. A late check constitutes reckless endangerment of a player no longer in possession or control of the puck and is deemed an interference type infraction.

Key references:

  • This is deemed interference
  • Late check on a player no longer in possession of the puck
  • Category 1 - Careless
  • Not a repeat offender
