After a long break, Olimpija Ljubljana and the Vienna Capitals return to the ice on Wednesday. Ljubljana last played on February 1, suffering an 8–5 defeat in Villach — their first loss after a five-game winning streak. The Capitals were last in action on January 31, recording a 1–0 victory over the Pioneers. Overall, Vienna is in strong form, having won five of their last six games. However, they have managed just one win in their previous five away matches. In the head-to-head matchup with Olimpija, the Capitals recently claimed two home victories, while the first meeting of the season ended in a clear 8–1 win for the hosts from Ljubljana.

Linz can take a big step toward the Pre-Playoffs
In the second game of the day, the Pioneers Vorarlberg host the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. The visitors from Upper Austria have an opportunity to take an important step toward the Pre-Playoffs. Currently sitting in tenth place, they occupy the final qualifying spot but maintain a five-point cushion over eleventh-placed Budapest. Behind them, the Pioneers are in twelfth place, already 16 points adrift of the Black Wings. The Vorarlberg side has failed to win any of their last three games. They were last in action on January 31, losing 1–0 in Vienna. The Black Wings, meanwhile, suffered a 4–0 defeat in Klagenfurt in their most recent outing on February 1. Away from home, Linz has struggled throughout the season. They have collected just 14 points from 22 road games, winning only five of them. One of those victories came in November against the Pioneers (5–4). Linz also claimed the first meeting of the season (5–2), while the most recent encounter went in favor of the Pioneers (5–3).
