Two games suspension for Dmitri Vozovik

Dmitri Vozovik (#14) of HC Gherdeina valgardena.it, time 26:44, made contact with an opponent deemed as Kneeing IIHF Rule 50. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 2 – ‘Reckless’.

Saturday night, September 19, in Merano, Gherdeina D’Man #14 Dmitri Vozovik was involved in an incident deemed as Kneeing on Merano forward #75 David Trivellato, resulting in a 5-minute major penalty and an automatic game misconduct.

As the video shows, Trivellato is exiting his defensive zone and skating through the neutral zone with Speed and the puck under control. At the attacking blue line, Vozovik, as the defending player, steps up to deliver a check on Trivellato. Vozovik misses with his upper body and instead makes primary contact with his knee. This is Kneeing.

While Trivellato receives the puck in his defensive zone and carries it through the neutral zone with speed, Vozovik has sufficient time and space to read the play and prepare for the check. However, Vozovik is late in his attempt to make the hit and fails to make legal body contact. As a result, he leads with his knee, which becomes the primary point of contact with Trivellato's lower body.The contact is avoidable. Vozovik has the opportunity to adjust his approach and make the check without leading with his knee. Instead, by extending his knee into the path of the opponent, Vozovik creates a dangerous and unnecessary point of contact and recklessly endangers the safety of Trivellato.

As a result, and effective immediately, the Alps Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Dmitri Vozovik for 2 games.
