Two games suspension for Neubauer (SWL)

Matthias Neubauer (#9) of Steel Wings Linz, time approximately 33:53, made contact with an opponent deemed as Clipping, IIHF Rule 125. The video evidence was sent to the AHL Player Safety Committee (PSC), which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 2 – ‘Reckless’.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the AHL PSC, player Matthias Neubauer (#9) of Steel Wings Linz, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 125 – Clipping.

On Saturday, October 3rd, Matthias Neubauer of Steel Wings Linz, was involved in an incident deemed as
Clipping.

As the video shows, off an end zone face-off, Klagenfurt gains puck possession and immediately begins an defensive zone break out. Right wing, #9 Matthias Neubauer of Linz, reads the play and starts his defensive attack from a stationary point, in the high slot area. When Klagenfurt makes an outlet pass from their d'man to center man in the open ice, Neubauer reads the play and immediately begins to skate at the Klagenfurt center man.

Neubauer initially began everything correct in taking an angle, limiting ice and making the Klagenfurt center man move the puck. Where it went wrong and the reason for supplementary discipline is the check that Neubauer delivered is considered illegal under clipping. Through the use of his hip, Neubauer lowers his body to deliver a check that makes contact to the knee area of the opposing player. Additionally, a player who recklessly endangers an opponent by a clipping action should receive a 5 minute + game misconduct penalty and based on the decision of the AHL PSC will receive supplementary discipline. The opposing player did sustain an injury and had no way to protect himself.

Effective immediately, Matthias Neubauer (#9) of Steel Wings Linz is suspended for 2 games.
