Simon Bourque (#24) of HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie, time 36:15 was involved in an incident deemed as Kneeing (IIHF Rule 50). The video evidence was sent to the win2day ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 - 'Careless'.

Friday night in Bozen, Innsbruck D'Man #24 Simon Bourque, was assessed a 5-minute Major + Game-Misconduct for a knee on knee hit to Bozen forward #26 Angelo Miceli, causing an apparent injury.

As the video shows, Miceli is entering the attacking zone with Bourque in a good defensive position on his blue line. As Miceli approach the blue line, he makes a small series of moves in an attempt to beat Bourque on a 1 on 1 battle. As he does so, Bourque extends his right leg outward, driving his knee into Miceli's knee, causing an apparent injury at the time.

This is kneeing.

It is important to note that while Miceli is attempting to make a move around Bourque on this play, this is not a case where a leg extension or abnormal movement by a player receiving a hit turns the potential for a body check into leg-on-leg contact. The 2 players, although moving in opposite directions, is not deemed at a speed whereby Bourque had no chance to make a legal body to body check. Instead, Bourque beat on his non-stick side, resorts to a body movement that extends his knee out, directly in the path of Miceli's lane to get a piece of him. If Bourque wants to make contact on this play, he must ensure he can make more substantial upper body contact, rather than have the force of the blow concentrated on the leg area of his
opponent.

The ICE Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Simon Bourque for 2 games and fined 400.00 euros. In additon, for the duration of Simon Bourque's suspension HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie also loses one (1) spot for non-domestic players on the game sheet.

To summarize:

  • This is kneeing
