The new Champions Hockey League season began last week. Salzburg and the KAC started the campaign with a win and a loss, while Fehérvár was defeated in both games. The Hungarians and Klagenfurt have played twice away from home and now have two home games, while Salzburg have to play away from home this time after two games in front of the home crowd.

After Salzburg narrowly lost 3:4 to last year's finalist Skelleftea last week, followed with a clear 6:2 home win against Sonderjyske Ishockey, the reigning champion of the win2day ICE Hockey League first plays az Unia Oświęcim this week on Friday. The reigning Polish champion started the Champions Hockey League with two defeats. After a 3:4/OT defeat at Ilves, Oświęcim lost 1:4 at home to the Eisbären Berlin. In the second game, Salzburg will face the reigning Swiss champion ZSC Lions Zurich on Sunday. The nine-time CHL participant won their first two games at Storhamar and Ilves 4:1 and are therefore only one of three teams to start the tournament with maximum points. Salzburg and Zurich already faced each other this summer at the Red Bulls Salute in Zell am See. The Swiss won the semi-final 3:0. They scored all their goals in the first period.

KAC with two home games
Runner-up EC-KAC is in action on Thursday and Sunday. Klagenfurt will play both games in front of a home crowd. It will be the first CHL home games for the KAC since November 16, 2021. First, the runner-up, who won 5:2 at Rouen last week before losing 2:6 at Farjestad, will face Fribourg-Gottéron from Switzerland. The National League semi-finalist has four points after two games. After a 4:3 home win against Sheffield, Fribourg-Gottéron lost 0:1/SO at Storhamar. Three days later, on Sunday, Klagenfurt will host Unia Oświęcim, who face Salzburg on Friday. The Polish champion will therefore play both the reigning champion and the reigning runner-up of the win2day ICE Hockey League within two days.

First competitive games for Fehérvár in the new Alba Arena
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 is already under pressure after the two opening defeats in the Czech Republic at Pardubice (0:7) and Sparta Prague (2:5). With Färjestad Karlstad and Lausanne HC, however, the Hungarians have two tough home games ahead. These will be Fehérvár's first ever competitive games in the new Alba Arena. Karlstad will play at Székesfehérvár on Thursday. The Swedes beat the KAC last week 6:2. They also celebrated a 5:0 away win at the Pelicans, which puts them in second place in the table with maximum points and a goal difference of +9. Finally, Lausanne will visit the Alba Arena on Saturday. Last season's National League finalist has four points after two CHL games. After a 2:1/OT defeat against Trinec, Lausanne narrowly won 2:1 at Bremerhaven.
