On Thursday, half of the six games in the Alps Hockey League ended with a shutout victory: Red Bull Hockey Juniors and EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel remained without conceding a goal. With the Rittner Buam SkyAlps, S.G. Cortina Hafro Hockey and HC Gherdeina valgardena.it three more teams celebrated a home victory. The only road win in this round was gained by league leader HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, which immediately corrected their defeat on Tuesday against Klagenfurt.
First career shutouts for Wolf (RBJ) und Moser (KEC)
Red Bull Hockey Juniors and EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel recorded clear shutout victories on Thursday. The Salzburg side prevailed 4-0 at home against the Steel Wings Linz in a duel between two farm teams. The 18-year-old Simon Wolf remained in his ninth AHL appearance for the first time without a goal, recorded 24 saves. The second-place team laid the foundation for the win in the opening period, with Assavolyuk (13.) and Cernik (14.) scoring within 55 seconds. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors thus also completed their fourth league home game against the Steel Wings without conceding a goal (28:0).
Lukas Moser cheered his first shutout for the Tyroleans, which beat EHC Lustenau 6-0. In his 17th AHL game, the 20-year-old stopped 32 shots on goal. Kitzbühel decided the game with five goals in the final period. Joonas Niemelä put in another strong performance with two goals and two assists and moves back up to fifth place in the scoring charts.
Cortina makes big step to Master Round
Third-placed S.G. Cortina Hafro claimed their 15th win of the season with a 5-3 home victory over the fourth-placed Hockey Unterland Cavaliers, with extending their lead over sixth place to eleven points. However, the Italians had to tremble at the end for their seventh victory in a row: After 26 minutes they were 4-0 ahead, before the AHL newcomer opened the game again with three powerplay goals in the final period - but ultimately could not turn the game around. Francesco Adami scored a brace for Cortina.
Leader takes lone road win
The lone road win on Thursday was claimed by league leader HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, as the Slovenians won 3-1 at SHC Fassa Falcons and immediately returned to winning ways, after the game have started 30 minutes late due to Jesenice's late arrival. The decisive goal was scored by Luka Ulamec (44.) on the power play. Fassa had to admit defeat again after two wins in a row.
Mc Gowan posts 5-point game
Bradley Mc Gowan led HC Gherdeina valgardena.it to a 6-2 home win over EC-KAC Future Team. The former AHL MVP was involved in five goals, scored two himself and provided the primary assist three times. It was the first 5-point game this season for the 32-year-old. Val Gardena, which won the game with five goals in the final period, scored in its fifth home game in a row to shorten the gap on the top five. Klagenfurt ended the regular season with its 21st loss of the season.
Ritten closes gap to top-5
The Rittner Buam SkyAlps have closed their gap to the top-5 and thus to a place in the Masterround: In the South Tyrolean derby, the "Buam", with goalie Hayden Hawkin making his comeback after a one-and-a-half-month injury break, beat the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 5-3. The former AHL champion scored at home for the sixth time in a row, inflicted Sterzing the third defeat in a row. Jakob Cardwell recorded a brace, while Joseph Mizzi scored all three goals for the Broncos.
