One of the biggest surprises of the win2day ICE Hockey League season was that the Pioneers made it to the quarter-finals and were able to hold their own against the EC-KAC, who dominated the regular season. The team from Vorarlberg, which was considered an outsider before the season, has now shown a further improvement in performance in the playoffs and has already taken two games off the EC-KAC in the quarter-finals.

Duo at the center of success
At the center of this unexpected success are two players: Steven Owre and Guus van Nes. Owre, the Canadian forward and "Regular Season MVP", dominated the league from the start with his accuracy and intelligence. With 31 goals and just as many assists, he has set new standards this season and also leads the league in the playoffs with a total of nine scoring points.

His teammate, Guus van Nes from the Netherlands, is only just behind him on the postseason scoring list. With his ability to assist goals, he already proved his usefulness to the team in the regular season. 33 assists in the regular season - most of them for Owre - speak for themselves, and in the playoffs van Nes also proved with six more assists that he is one of the players with the best overview.

Second time against the end of the season
The Pioneers, led by this outstanding duo, face a daunting challenge tonight: they must win against the EC-KAC to force a seventh and deciding game and avoid having to end their season. After an impressive 6-1 win in their last game that sent the KAC home with their highest loss of the season, hopes are high that this momentum will carry them to success tonight. The "van Nes-Owre" axis struck again in this game.

A blazing fire was lit in Vorarlberg

The harmony on the ice between Owre and van Nes and the resulting success has sparked a budding fire in the Vorarlberghalle in recent months. At the last home game last Saturday, the arena in Feldkirch was completely sold out with 3,890 spectators. A similar crowd is expected today at the Arena, in addition to numerous fans in front of the TV sets to see whether the Pioneers can spring another surprise. The Pioneers' fight against the end of the season and the EC-KAC's fight for a place in the semi-finals can be seen live on PULS 24 and the super streamer JOYN from 7.05 pm today.
