The spusu Vienna Capitals have advanced to the semifinals of the win2day ICE Hockey League with a 3-2 home win over EC-KAC, dethroning the reigning champions. Vienna is in the semifinals for the fifth time in a row. The "Capitals" had to play the decisive quarterfinal match badly decimated: Due to positive COVID-19 cases, injuries and suspensions, nine regulars were missing in addition to the coaching duo. The home team offered Klagenfurt a game on equal terms - and they took the lead through a goal by Luke Moncada (7.). Only a little later Klagenfurt equalized, Lukas Haudum (9.) deflected a Ganahl shot to make it 1-1. The "Rotjacken" became more present and took the lead in the 27th minute through Thomas Koch, before Vienna turned the game around in the final period: first James Sheppard (43.) equalized, then Matt Bradley hit the game-winner about ten minutes elft. The victory was once again secured by Bernhard Starkbaum, who shone with strong saves, especially in the crunch time.

Villach reaches semifinals again after six years
EC GRAND Immo VSV also entered the semifinals of the win2day ICE Hockey League with a home win. For the "Adler" it is the first semifinal appearance since the 2015/16 season, celebrating a 4:1 victory in the decisive home game against HK SZ Olimpija. John Hughes gave Villach a perfect start. A short time later Scott Kosmachuk (8.) increased the lead, completing a perfect give-and-go with Rick Schofield. The "Dragons" reduced the two-goal deficit almost posthaste after a breakaway of Wade Murphy (10.). Villach showed itself disciplined in further course of the game and was then successful in the third power play, as Schofield (39/PP1) scored. A short comeback of the Slovenians in the final period was cancelled out by a great Tomi Karhunen (32 saves). The final goal was scored by Anton Karlsson on empty net.
