Vienna enters semifinals | Linz forces game 7

The spusu Vienna Capitals have entered the semi-finals of the win2day ICE Hockey League. Head coach Dave Barr's team celebrated a 5:1 home victory over HC TIWAG Innsbruck on Sunday, with the Viennese thus also winning the fourth playoff duel with the Tyroleans. Steinbach Black Wings Linz tied the series against top-seeded HCB Südtirol Alperia with a 2:1 overtime victory. Martin Schumnig provided the game-winner in the 69th minute. The decisive seventh game of the series will be played on Tuesday in Bolzano.

In front of 4,750 spectators, the spusu Vienna Capitals got off to the better start and took the lead in the eighth minute through Jérémy Grégoire. Before the end of the period Matt Bradley even doubled it. The Innsbruck team was not able to show their offensive qualities this evening, in some situations they failed because of Caps goalie Stefan Steen. In the middle period, the home side added a third in a shorthanded situation, Gregoire (34.) cheered after Hartl's assist. In the third period, the Sharks were unable to capitalize on a four-minute power play, but in the 50th minute Simon Bourque got the guests on the scoreboard. But only 46 seconds later Max Zimmer restored the three-goal lead. In the final phase Zimmer added an Empty Netter for the final result. After five victories for the visiting team, head coach Dave Barr's team secured a place in the semifinals with its first home win of the series. The Viennese thus also won the fourth playoff duel with the Tyroleans.



Linz forces deciding game
The Steinbach Black Wings Linz got off to a better start in the sixth meeting of the quarterfinal series against HCB Südtirol Alperia than in the two previous games. Brian Lebler (7th) gave the home side the lead with a precise finish. But only 60 seconds later Brad McClure equalized. Subsequently, both goalkeepers did a great job, HCB netminder Sam Harvey had 38 saves at the end of the game. He only conceded a second in overtime, when Martin Schumnig converted a Knott pass from close range in the 69th minute. The decisive seventh game of the series will be played on Tuesday in Bolzano.
