The spusu Vienna Capitals took an 11:3 win in Székesfehérvár in the Pick Round of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League, while the EC-KAC picked up its first win, beating EC Red Bull Salzburg 5:2 thanks to a brilliant final frame.
In the Qualification Round, HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie claimed its first win at leader Dornbirn, coming back from a two-goal deficit to win 5:4 after shootout, while the iClinic Bratislava Capitals temporarily secured second place with a home win over Graz and EC GRAND Immo VSV destroyed the winning streak of the Steinbach Black Wings 1992 at five.
Vienna celebrates biggest season win at Hungary
The spusu Vienna Capitals won 11:3 at Hydro Fehérvár AV19 - and celebrated their highest win of the season. For the second time in league history, the Vienna Capitals scored more than ten goals on the road and won in Hungary for the second time with an eight-goal difference (9:1 on September 8th, 2017). Thus, the "Caps" also get points in their third pick round game, are now in third place. Nine players got on the scoring sheet, with Ty Loney and Alex Wall collecting a brace. Grant Besse scored on his debut and Steve Johnson scored his first goal in the third game for Vienna.
Strong last gives KAC first win in pick round
EC-KAC celebrated its first win in the third pick round game of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. With the 5:2 win at EC Red Bull Salzburg, which lost the second game in the intermediate round too, the "Rotjacken" moved back to second place in the table. Jack Skille (2. and 32.) gave the home team the lead twice, Nick Petersen (18. and 43.) equalized for the guests in each case. And just 18 seconds after the second equalizer, Thomas Hundertpfund fired in for the lead. This turned the game around, Klagenfurt finally scored two more and celebrated its fourth win of the season over Salzburg.
Innsbruck takes first win in qualification round
HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie celebrated its first win in the third round of the Qualification Round. In the West derby at the Dornbirn Bulldogs, the "Sharks" got a 5:4 win after shootout, for which they had to work a lot: Twice they gave away a one-goal lead - each time scored by top scorer Daniel Ciampini (11. and 29.) - and then trailed 2:4 after two periods. But a powerplay goal by Felix Girard (51.) and a goal by Kevin Tansey (54.) secured the overtime. The decision was then made in the shootout when Braden Christoffer remained successful. Dornbirn conceded its second defeat in the intermediate round but remains leader.
Bratislava defends second place
The iClinic Bratislava Capitals have defended their second place in the qualification round. The ICE newcomer celebrated a 4:2 home win over the Moser Medical Graz99ers, which are now five points behind the Slovaks in third place. The Styrians turned the lead of Maxime Fortier (10.), who scored after a rebound, in their favor through Anton Mylläri (14.) and Anthony Cameranesi (30.), before Fortier provided the equalizer for the home team with his second goal - about one minute before the second intermission. The home team added another overtime goal in the final period through Milos Bubela (56.) before Mitch Hults scored an empty-netter to give the Slovaks their third win of the season over Graz.
Villach destroys Linz‘ winning streak at five
EC GRAND Immo VSV ended the winning streak of Steinbach Black Wings 1992. The "Adler" won 4:2 at home and overtook the Upper Austrians in the standings. With seven points, Villach is now tied for fourth place with third-placed Graz. The decisive factor for the Carinthians was their special teams: Sahir Gill (12./SH) equalized the deficit with a shorthanded goal, before an efficient powerplay with two goals ensured Villach's second Qualification Round win. With a save percentage of 94.1% Jakub Sedlacek showed his best performance so far for the "Adler". Linz conceded its first defeat in the intermediate round, losing after five victories in a row.
