Release from 19.09.2025
Friday’s action in the win2day ICE Hockey League delivered plenty of excitement. The Vienna Capitals edged the Steinbach Black Wings Linz 7:6 in a high-scoring clash, while Olimpija Ljubljana defeated the Moser Medical Graz99ers 4:3 in overtime. EC Red Bull Salzburg also claimed a 2:1 overtime win against EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV. This keeps Ljubljana level on points with Salzburg at the top of the standings. Meanwhile, EC-KAC turned a 0:2 deficit at FTC-Telekom into a 6:2 victory, and HCB Südtirol Alperia easily beat the Pioneers Vorarlberg 6:0. The third round concludes on Saturday with Hydro Fehérvár AV19 hosting HC TIWAG Innsbruck.
In a thrilling encounter, the Vienna Capitals came out on top 7:6 against the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. The Capitals trailed 1:4 and 3:5 at times but fought back to level the score 5:5 after 40 minutes. In the third period, the hosts electrified 4,000 fans: Marco Richter scored just 72 seconds in to make it 6:5, and Armin Preiser added a seventh goal seven minutes later. Linz managed only a late consolation goal four minutes from time. No Capitals player scored twice, but the win was Vienna’s second in a row, lifting them to fourth place, while Linz suffered their second consecutive defeat.
Ljubljana remains league leader
Olimpija Ljubljana secured their third win in as many games. Defender T.J. Brennan scored the overtime game-winner at Graz. Brennan, 36, leads the league in points (7) alongside teammate Nicolai Meyer. Meyer had tied the game 3:3 just under four minutes before the end of regulation, after Ljubljana had come back from 0:1 and 1:2 deficits. For Graz, it was the first defeat of the season.
Corcoran fires Salzburg to overtime victory
The first challengers to Ljubljana remain EC Red Bull Salzburg, who narrowly defeated EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV 2:1 in overtime at home. Connor Corcoran scored both power-play goals for the hosts: first in the 31st minute to make it 1:0, then 12 seconds before the end of OT to secure the win. Guus van Nees had briefly equalized on a power play less than three minutes before regulation ended. Before that, Michael Raffl received a game misconduct in his first game against his home club Villach for a head check. Salzburg held on for the win, handing Villach their second defeat in three games.
KAC comeback in Budapest
EC-KAC showed their resilience against league newcomer FTC-Telekom. After trailing 0:2, Klagenfurt won 6:2, claiming their second victory in three games. Both Luca Gomboc and Mathias From scored twice. The score was still tied 2:2 with 14 minutes remaining, but KAC added four more goals to seal the win. Budapest suffered their third loss in three games.
HCB Südtirol Alperia had no trouble defeating the Pioneers Vorarlberg 6:0. The visitors led only 1:0 after the first period, but pulled away to 4:0 in the second before adding two more goals in the final period. It was Bozen’s first win of the season in their second game, while the Pioneers suffered their third consecutive defeat.
