Viktor Trilar, who is held in high esteem by all sides, has refereed numerous finals and left his mark on refereeing over the past two decades. After 18 years, the Slovenian ended his active career almost a year ago at the Carinthian derby - his 700th appearance. Since then, Trilar has been working as a referee observer at matches. At the start of the 2025/26 win2day ICE Hockey League season, the 51-year-old will become the new Director of Officiating. His many years of league experience combined with his respectful manner make him the ideal choice. “I'm looking forward to taking on this role and working closely with the refereeing team. Together we want to ensure that every game is officiated with the utmost professionalism and integrity. I want to contribute to the continued success of the league,” says Trilar, looking forward to his new role.

The Slovenian follows in the footsteps of Tom Kowal who, after careful consideration, has decided to step down from the role of Director of Officiating at the end of this season after four years. “It has been a privilege to work with such a talented and dedicated group of people. I will always cherish the moments and relationships I have built here. I look forward to new opportunities and want to see this season come to a successful conclusion,” said Kowal.

The appointment of Trilar as the new Director of Officiating is part of the win2day ICE Hockey League's ongoing efforts to improve the overall experience for players and fans alike. “We are incredibly grateful for Tom Kowal's commitment. He has brought his leadership and hard work to the day-to-day operations. Tom will always be a valued member of our league family. We wish him all the best for the future. We are also very pleased to welcome Viktor Trilar, our record-breaking referee, in another role. He is very highly regarded in the hockey community and his experience and commitment will be of great value,” says league manager Christian Feichtinger.
