The two teams met with open sights from the beginning. After Hampus Eriksson opened the scoring in the fifth minute, Elias Wallenta (7th) equalised shortly afterwards. Christian Bull scored with a beautiful individual action to regain the Pioneers' lead. After both Tomazeic and Lanzinger, who failed to beat Vorarlberg goalkeeper David Madlener, missed chances, the score was 1:2 going into the first break. After the restart, the hosts turned up the heat and continuously created chances: Maximilian Rebernig, Chris Collins and Philipp Lindner made it 4:2 within seven minutes.

But the Carinthians continued to show weaknesses in defence. At first, goalkeeper JP Lamoureux made a great save, but a few seconds later Jack Jacome (32nd) pulled one back. The league newcomer now had the momentum again and gave the game another turn: through goals by Luka Maver and Eriksson, the guests were suddenly 5:4 ahead. But the Villach team had the last word in the middle period when a shot by Robert Sabolic found its way into the net. In the third period, the home side set the tone. Blaz Tomazevic (45th) beat Madlener with a wraparound and Alexander Rauchenwald gave the hosts their first two-goal lead. While the Pioneers were unable to come back, Sabolic (52nd) scored the final goal on the first power play of the game. VSV thus won the highest-scoring game of the season so far, celebrating their first win and avoiding the worst start to a season since the league was newly founded.
