While VSV won its season debut in Linz on Sunday, Bolzano came to Villach with two losses. The reigning runner-up of the win2day ICE Hockey League got off to the better start on Tuesday. The visitors found the back of the net early, but after video review there was a no goal call because of a hand pass. Although the South Tyroleans were the dominating team for long stretches of the first period, Villach took the lead: Maximilian Rebernig scored in the eleventh minute, with Bolzano goalie Svedberg being out of luck.

After Bolzano missed a good chance to equalize at the beginning of the middle frame, VSV once again took the initiative at the right time. Rebernig (after an ideal Wall assist) and Benjamin Lanzinger (on the powerplay) made it 3:0 within two minutes. Mike Halmo scored for the guests with a well-placed shot into the cross corner, but Anthony Luciani restored the three-goal advantage. In the final period, Gianluca Vallini replaced Svedberg in the HCB goal. Bolzano had a few opportunities, but failed because of Villach netminder JP Lamoureux. VSV won 4:1 in its home debut and also took the lead in the standings.
