The BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg got off a good start, as the home side opened the game extremely aggressively. Luka Maver (2.) scored early to take the lead, hammering the puck into the left cross corner on a two-on-one. Just two minutes later, Jack Jacome added to the lead on a breakaway. The Pioneers continued to dominate the action, lucky that Villach's first goal was disallowed for offside. But then the "Adler" became more dangerous, as Blaz Tomazevic (16.) halved the deficit before the end of the first period. At the start of the second, Villach stepped up the pace and turned the game around with two goals by Felix Maxa (28.) and Chris Collins scored within 40 seconds to take the lead. From then on, the visitors managed their advantage, added to it in the 50th minute and then finally decided the game with an empty-net goal.
