“The two seasons in the win2day ICE Hockey League were important first steps for me. When you train and play with professionals at a high level every day, you can keep developing,” says Uschan, who was developed in Villach and gradually integrated into the senior team. Last season, the 19-year-old also made 20 appearances for Zell am See in the Alps Hockey League, where he gained valuable experience: “My time in Zell am See was also very important for me. I had a different role there and took on more responsibility.”

Paul Sintschnig and Nico Uschan were both selected by the Halifax Mooseheads in this year’s CHL Import Draft, making it a big moment for Villach’s youth system. “For me, it’s a huge chance to prove myself in North America. Halifax is the perfect next step,” Uschan says, with his next career move set to begin shortly.

Before that, the defenseman will still take part in the Sunshine Hockey League. At the major summer tournament in Carinthia, Uschan and his team Hyänen Hockey qualified for the final tournament, which will be played this weekend at Klagenfurt’s Heidi Horten Arena..
