Ljubljana celebrates third success against league leader
HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana defeated league leader EC Red Bull Salzburg for the third time this season. In four encounters, the Slovenians conquered eight of twelve possible points - more than any other team so far. Only the spusu Vienna Capitals and the Dornbirn Bulldogs - both teams still have one match against Salzburg - could also come to eight points against the league leader. After three defeats in a row lately, the league newcomer thus reports back in time in the fight for direct playoff qualification. However, Salzburg started more efficiently in the anniversary game of Thomas Raffl - he played his 800th league game. Florian Baltram provided the lead in the first period at the end of a powerplay. But the Slovenians answered promptly in a fast game - characterized by transitions. After a scoreless middle period, the visitors rewarded themselves for their hard work throughout the game. A quick double strike between the 52nd and 53rd minute brought the decision. Salzburg managed to score the final goal, but it was not enough for overtime.

Pustertal turns game at KAC
HC Pustertal once again managed to turn around a match in the final phase on Sunday. Three goals in the final period against EC-KAC brought already the fourth full success in a row. The league newcomer thus moved within striking distance of the top-6 teams and thus of direct quarter-final qualification. Their local rivals from South Tyrol (currently in sixth place) are currently only 0.004 points per game ahead of the Wolves. The EC-KAC, who recently showed an upward form in home games, scraped past the fifth success in the last six home games. At the beginning, everything still seemed to go according to plan for the KAC. After only 22 seconds the home side took the lead through Clemens Unterweger. Three more goals followed in the first period, with the KAC leading on each occasion, but the Wolves promptly equalizing twice in powerplay. However, the South Tyroleans initially had no answer to a double strike in the second period before catching up in the final period. Despite Zach Budish's goal, the KAC seemed to be in control of the match. However, a double strike in the last five minutes by Anthony Bardaro and Gregory Carey brought the late decision in favor of the South Tyroleans. Bardaro scored a brace in the 5:4 win.

VSV takes fortress in Znojmo and equals season record
The hottest team in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League continued its run on Sunday, defeating the strongest team at home. For EC Grand Immo VSV, this was already the eighth full success in a row. The Villach team thus equaled Salzburg's season record - games without losing a point. HC Tesla Orli Znojmo had to end their home series after six home wins ensuite. In the direct duel, the Villach team thus recorded a regular-season sweep over HC Tesla Orli Znojmo, in which they did not concede a single point. In all four duels, the blue-white eagles have an impressive goal record of 21:8. However, the fourth and for the time being last encounter on Sunday was the most exciting so far. The home-strong Czechs responded to the visitors' opening goal with a brace. After Villach equalized in the middle period, the red eagles again took the lead. But in the same period the second-placed team turned the match around with two goals from Benjamin Lanzinger and Kevin Moderer. After the final period ended goalless, VSV finally celebrated a 4:3 victory and thus shortened the gap to league leader Salzburg, which is only two wins ahead of Villach with the same number of games. The gap to third-placed Hydro Fehérvár AV19 is just as large.
