The EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV earned a 7:3 win against HC Pustertal in their preseason opener on Tuesday, while the spusu Vienna Capitals were narrowly beaten by Slovakian side HC 05 Banska Bystrica in their first appearance of the new season.

The spusu Vienna Capitals lost the first game of the preseason despite a good performance. Head coach Dave Barr's team suffered a 2:1 defeat against the Slovakian first division team HC 05 Banska Bystrica, who had already played two preparation games. After a goalless first period Niki Hartl (37th) gave the Viennese the lead after a counterattack. In the final period, the Slovaks turned the game around after goals by Jendek and Kabac. On Sunday, SC Marimex Kolin, a Czech second league team, awaits the Caps.

EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV set the course for victory in their first test match already in the first period. Against league rival HC Pustertal, the hosts were already 3:1 ahead after 20 minutes with Derek Joslin, Chris Collins and Marco Richter scoring the goals. The Carinthians continued to dominate the game in the middle period and increased their lead to 5:1. Both newcomers Blaz Tomazevic and Simon Depres added their names to the list of scorers after very nice combinations. In the end, the team from Villach celebrated a 7:3 victory, while HC Pustertal suffered their first defeat in their second preseason game.
