“Of course, there are situations you imagine differently – and then they turn out another way,” says Raffl. “Sports are very, very mental, and that’s where experienced players, good friends or teammates with more experience can really help.”

For Raffl, team spirit is much more than just a phrase: “A hockey locker room is like a big family. When someone isn’t doing well, people notice – and there’s always someone there to help.”

He also emphasizes the importance of a supportive environment: “The better you can shape the environment around you, the stronger you are as a person – and the more you can stay true to yourself. That’s one of the most important things in life: not having to pretend to be someone else.”

With his honest and thoughtful approach, Michael Raffl shows that mental strength isn’t about being invulnerable – it’s about humanity, experience and mutual trust.
