The Steinbach Black Wings Linz made a dream start against HC Falkensteiner Pustertal, taking the lead after just 107 seconds through Stefan Gaffal. Less than a minute and a half later, Travis Barron made it 2–0 on the power play. Pustertal struggled to find rhythm and only began to get into the game at the start of the second period. In the 22nd minute, Tommy Purdeller reduced the deficit to 1–2. Just two minutes later, 20-year-old Paul Eder scored his first career goal to make it 3–1 for Linz. The score remained until five and a half minutes from the end, when Alan Lobis pulled one back for Pustertal – his second goal of the season. In the end, the South Tyroleans could not prevent their third consecutive defeat and their second loss of the season against Linz. In the standings, the long-time leaders from South Tyrol now sit fourth, while Linz celebrated one of three wins from their last five games and remain tenth – now with a six-point lead over 11th-placed Vienna.

Gerlach braces in debut
In the second game of the day, Max Gerlach starred in Hydro Fehérvár’s 4–2 road victory over HC TIWAG Innsbruck. The 27-year-old American scored the 1–0 and 3–2 goals, netting twice on his debut for the Hungarians – against his former club from the 2020/21 season. For ninth-placed Fehérvár, it was their third consecutive win, while 12th-placed Innsbruck suffered their fourth defeat in a row. At times, it looked promising for the Sharks, as they turned an early 0–1 deficit into a lead by the 27th minute. However, the Hungarians equalized still in the middle period, before Gerlach’s 49th-minute goal put them ahead 3–2. Archibald sealed the 4–2 final ten minutes from time. In the third meeting of the season, this was Fehérvár’s third victory over Innsbruck.
