Release from 22.10.2022
On Saturday, HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice defended their lead in the Alps Hockey League, and also second-placed Hafro Cortina Hockey celebrated a home victory. With EHC Lustenau, the Rittner Buam and the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, three teams recorded a shutout. In addition, EK Die Zeller Eisbären and EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel extended their winning streaks.
Only 24 hours after the clear 7:1 victory over Lustenau, Jesenice followed up with a 4:1 win over Fassa. Zan Jezovsek scored the only goal in the first period for the clearly superior Slovenians. Shortly after the restart Diego Iori equalised the score out of nothing, but it was Jezovsek again (35th) who put the home side ahead. In the third period Fassa could hardly set any offensive accents, the 3:1 by Lovro Kumanovic was the result. Shortly before the end, Rudolfs Polcs scored the final goal. Jesenice thus remained unbeaten at home against Fassa in their seventh encounter and defended their lead in the standings.
Second-placed Cortina also took three points against EC Bregenzerwald on Saturday. After two previous defeats, forward Diego Cuglietta set the course for victory with two goals in the first period. In the middle frame, Mikael Saha increased the lead with a shorthanded marker and six seconds before the second period break, Tommaso Alvera scored on the power play to make it 4:0. The visitors from Vorarlberg did not give up, however, and came back with two goals to make it 4:2. But that was all the guests could do that evening.
Zell am See and Kitzbühel extend winning streaks
In front of almost 1,900 spectators, Zell am See celebrated a convincing 6:1 home victory against the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. After a goalless first period, in which the guests were more than equal, the home side took command. A power play goal by Daniel Ban (28th) broke the spell, and by the end of the period the Salzburgers led 4:1. In the final period Tomi Willenius scored two more goals, he also recorded a brace, as did Ban. With the fifth win in a row, Zell am See climbed to third place in the standings.
Kitzbühel now also has five wins in a row, the Tyroleans beat Gardena 5:3. However, the visitors got off to the better start, taking a 0:2 lead early in the middle period. In a heated phase with many penalties, the Eagles turned the game around with goals from Niemelä (2x), Urbanek and Kreuter to make it 4:2. In the third period, the Eagles carried the lead over time thanks to a strong defensive performance. After Messner pulled one back for the "fury", Hook scored an empty netter to decide the game. Kitzbühel is now sixth in the standings.
Three shutouts
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors once again left Sterzing without a win. The Broncos won 2:0, their tenth win in eleven home games against the Salzburgers. The decision was already made in the first minutes. First Lukas de Lorenzo Meo (3rd) found the back of the net for the lead, in the fourth minute Joseph Mizzi used the first power play of the game to make it 2:0. Although there were still numerous penalties on both sides, the score remained that way until the end. Sterzing goalie Jakob Rabanser celebrated a shutout with 22 saves.
The Rittner Buam SkyAlps returned to winning ways with a 4:0 victory over the Steinbach Steel Wings Linz. In a disjointed first period, the home side took the lead through a Fink goal. The second goal followed in the 35th minute: Robert Öhler started a solo from the right side, made two Linz defenders look very old and finished dry for 2:0. In the final period Janne Tavi and Manuel Öhler added two more goals, Hannes Treibenreif was also happy about his first shutout of the season.
Only one day after the clear defeat in Jesenice, Lustenau showed itself in a scoring mood. The Vorarlberg team clearly set the tone for two periods at the EC-KAC Future Team and deserved to win 5:0. Dominik Oberscheider (9.) and Kevin Puschnik (16./PP) scored for the visitors in the opening period. Two goals by Mads Larsen then ensured the preliminary decision. One minute before the end Philipp Pöschmann scored the final goal, Erik Hanses saved 24 shots in the EHC goal. Lustenau thus kept the upper hand in 14 of a total of 15 AHL duels with Klagenfurt.
