Zack Philips scores 25.000 regular season goal

While securing Feharvar AV19' 3:2 home win against Dornbirn Bulldogs, Zack Philips set a new milestone in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. His game winning goal was the 25.000 regular season goal in EBEL history. Thanks to Philips, who had a brace, the Hungarians came back after being down by two at the beginning of the third period and celebrated the second win against the Austrians this season.

Istvan Sofron and Arttu Luttinen missed the game and will be not able to play for weeks due to injuries, whereas Erdély Csanád will most likely be eligible to play next week for Fehérvár AV19. Benedek Madácsi, 19-year-old youngster got the opportunity to put on the EBEL-jersey. Dornbirn started the game better, Carruth made great saves, then the young Reisz-Szita-Madácsi line threatened, however, the Bulldogs were more dangerous with their counterattacks in the upcoming minutes, too. Fehervar missed a powerplay opportunity but they were close to scoring after Koger’s blueliner. On the other end, playing full strength, Reid hit the crossbar and Caruso had to sit in the penalty box, without many chances for Dornbirn five on four. 

The second period went on just like the first, Dornbirn dominated the game, and the guests scored at the beginning of the period, Brodie Reid put a rebound in the net. The Hungarians pushed hard for the equalizer, however, Rinne saved all shots. Magnan fouled but the powerplay was unsuccessful for Koger and co. Towards the middle of the period, the home team started to push harder but both Caruso and Kuralt missed. The momentum was lost when Koskiranta got a penalty but Fehervar defended well. At the end of the period, the game went on on both ends, then O’Donnell doubled the lead after a nice attack, moreover, Koger fouled and the period ended with a Dornbirn powerplay.

During the powerplay at the beginning, Fehervar defended well and Dornbirn was unsuccessful. Fehervar had a more eventful powerplay right after, it was Zack Phillips who put the puck in the net. Dornbirn missed another five on four opportunity, whereas Fehervar started to dominate the game five on five, but neither Kuralt nor Koger scored. The next minutes went on on powerplay for Fehervar again, Daniel Szabo missed then Rinne saved Meland’s and Sarauer’s shots. Dornbirn put everything in for the last minutes, but Carruth made big saves, and after a counter attack, Tikkanen tied the game. The Gábor Ocskay Jr. Ice Rink exploded after the goal, pushing their team further to score the 25000. goal in the regular season in EBEL history. Just after 5 seconds before the buzzer, it was Zack Phillips again to write history for the Hungarians and scored the milestone after a rebound.
