EK Zeller Eisbären celebrated a 3–0 home win over league leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors on Saturday. While Asiago extended their winning streak to nine games, Bregenzerwald and Sterzing remained in the hunt for a place in the Master Round. Meanwhile, Cortina ended their losing streak.
EK Die Zeller Eisbären – Red Bull Hockey Juniors 3–0 (2–0, 1–0, 0–0)
In front of nearly 2,900 fans, the Zeller Eisbären earned an impressive derby victory over the league leaders. The Pinzgau side dominated for long stretches, playing aggressively and leaving the Juniors little room to create offense. Zauner and Huard gave Zell a comfortable 2–0 lead in the first period, and Jennes sealed the final score with a goal in the second. Goalie Schmidt posted a shutout to cap a strong team performance. With the win, Zell am See closed the gap to just three points behind the Juniors.
HDD Jesenice – HC Migross Asiago 4–5 SO (2–1, 1–2, 1–1)
Both teams delivered a thrilling battle with several lead changes. The Slovenians went ahead twice in the first, but Asiago turned the game around in the second period, taking a 3–2 lead through Traversa. Jesenice responded and went 4–3 up by the 52nd minute, but Valentini forced overtime with a late power-play goal. After a scoreless extra session, he also struck in the shootout to secure the win. Asiago missed a chance to clinch a master-round spot but extended their winning streak to nine and took another step toward the playoffs.
Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan – Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 3–2 OT (1–1, 1–1, 0–0)
Kitzbühel started strong and took the lead through Engelhart before Kruselberger equalized on the power play just before the first break. Early in the second, Hofer put Sterzing ahead, but Fröwis tied the game shortly after. Despite plenty of scoring chances — especially on special teams — goalies Gratzer and Groh kept their teams in it with big saves. In overtime, Zandegiacomo netted the game-winner for the Broncos in the 64th minute.
EC Bregenzerwald – Hockey Unterland Cavaliers 6–1 (0–0, 3–1, 3–0)
Bregenzerwald recorded a commanding home win over the league’s bottom team to keep their top-five hopes alive. After a goalless first frame, newcomer Rantanen opened the scoring. Unterland briefly leveled, but the hosts pulled ahead 3–1 by the second intermission. In the final period, Grasser, Haiböck, and Rantanen (with his second of the night) sealed the result. The ECB climbed to sixth place, now only one point behind Kitzbühel.
S.G. Cortina Hafro – HC Gherdeina valgardena.it 5–1 (2–1, 3–0, 0–0)
After six straight losses, Cortina returned to winning form in convincing fashion. Sanna gave the hosts an early lead before coach Gaber Glavic’s team took a 2–1 advantage into the first break. In the second period, Kalajanniska’s second goal made it 3–1, and a quick double strike from Chad Pietroniro put the game out of reach. The 5–1 score remained unchanged to the final buzzer.
