The third round of the Alps Hockey League on Saturday produced five home wins, just like Thursday. In the marquee matchup, EK Die Zeller Eisbären rallied from a 0-2 deficit to hand the Rittner Buam SkyAlps their first loss of the season, 5-4. HC Migross Asiago beat Cortina in overtime to reclaim first place. Defending champion HC Gherdeina valgardena.it earned its first win of the season in its home opener, while the Red Bull Hockey Juniors picked up their first points. HD Jesenice was the only road winner, coming from behind in the third period in Neumarkt.
Zell rallies in marquee matchup – Asiago wins in overtime
In front of 1,980 fans, Ritten jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Manuel Öhler and Felicetti, the latter on the power play. Putnik and Schmid tied it before the first intermission. The Eisbären's power play decided the game in the second period: Putnik scored with the man advantage, and after Capannelli tied it on a Ritten power play, Tomazevic struck twice on the power play. Ritten outshot Zell 22-7 in the third period, but Insam's goal only pulled them within one. Zell goalie Schmidt made 44 saves on 48 shots.
Asiago fell behind early against Cortina on a power-play goal by Sanna, before Parco tied it twice in the first period. Mbow gave the hosts their first lead in the second period, and Stoffling forced overtime in the 50th minute. Valentini then won it 4-3 at 4:47 of overtime. With eight points from four games, Asiago is back in first place.
Gherdeina wins in shootout – Levin leads Merano to victory
Defending champion Gherdeina earned its first win of the season in its first home game. Deluca and Mandruzzato twice gave the hosts the lead in the second period, with Bruckner scoring shorthanded for Kitzbühel in between. Stahlberg tied it on the power play and gave the Adler their first lead in the 52nd minute, before Pitschieler forced overtime just under three minutes later. Luisetti scored the deciding goal in the shootout.
HC Meran/o Pircher beat the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 5-2. Garau and March built a 2-0 lead through two periods before Cianfrone and Hofer tied it within three minutes in the third. Just 68 seconds later, Levin made it 3-2, Fuchs added another, and Levin sealed it with an empty-net goal. Merano goalie Couture stopped 41 of 43 shots.
First points for Salzburg – Jesenice rallies in Neumarkt
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors earned their first win in their third game. Macijevskis and Fischer, on the power play, put Salzburg up 2-0 in the first period. KHL Sisak twice cut the deficit with power-play goals by Brus and Tabak. Korhonen and Hartl restored the two-goal lead each time. Tabak's second goal, scored with the extra attacker just under two minutes from the end, came too late.
HD Jesenice picked up its second straight win. Baloh gave the Slovenians the lead in the first period before the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers turned the game around with power-play goals by Linjala and Heino. Kapel tied it just 131 seconds later, and Baloh scored his second of the night in the 53rd minute for the game-winner.
