Znojmo and Villach connect to top-5

In the 24th round of Erste Bank Eishockey Liga the EC Panaceo VSV and the HC Orli Znojmo closed the gap to the fifth place in standings, as the Czech side managed to get a 4:1 road-win at leader EC Red Bull Salzburg. Further, the EC-KAC and the HCB Südtirol Alperia each got a shutout, while bottom-placed Dornbirn Bulldogs stretched Moser Medical Graz99er’s losing-streak.

Teemu Lassila saved 44 in Znojmo’s road-win
With a 4:1 road-win at EC Red Bull Salzburg, the HC Orli Znojmo shortened the deficit to fifth place in standings, trailing only four points to the pick round and cheering the first season-win against the leader. After Brendan Mikkelson (10.) gave the hosts an inevitable lead, the “eagles” turned it around, as goalie Teemu Lassila had a great night, saving 44 overall. Robert Flick (19.) tied it at one after the first and the Czech side went all in, grabbing a 4:1 in the end. For the fourth time within the last six home-games, Salzburg scored only one goal.

VSV only one point behind Vienna
After a 4:3 home-win against the HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie”, which missed some key players again, the EC Panaceo VSV is only one point behind a spot in the pick-round. It was Villach’s first season-win against the “sharks”, as the hosts got off a great start, leading 2:0 after the first and controlling the game in the following. Innsbruck still had the chance to open the game in the last, but Maxwell kept his sheet clean in the final minutes.

Third shutout for EC-KAC within four games
With a tight 1:0-shutout-win at spusu Vienna Capitals, the EC-KAC halved the deficit in standings to leader Salzburg, trailing three points. The reigning champions, which had goalie Lars Haugen instead of David Madlener starting, booked their third game without a goal against within the last four games, posting the sixth shutout this season. Manuel Ganahl scored game’s lone goal in the 12th minute, as he converted a rebound after a Petersen-Shot. About halfway through the game EC-KAC’s Michael Kernberger got penalized for boarding with a major and game-misconduct on Patrik Kittinger, who had to be taken to the hospital with the rescue. Further, Klagenfurt defended the tight lead, winning for the third time 1:0 this season.



Bolzano received no goal too
After a 3:0-shutout in the home-game against Hydro Fehérvár AV19, the HCB Südtirol Alperia climbed back to third spot in standings. While the Hungarian side suffered the first defeat after two wins straight, the South Tyrolean booked their third season-shutout. Daniel Catenacci got his colors on the scoreboard in the 6th minute, as he scored also in his second game after a long injury. The preliminary decision was made Domenico Alberga, who scored a brace late in the last.



Dornbirn stretches Graz’ losing-streak

The Dornbirn Bulldogs stretched Moser Medical Graz99er’s losing-streak to six, as the bottom-placed team celebrated a 4:3-home-win. It was Vorarlberg side’s fourth season-win, grabbing points in the fourth consecutive home-game. Graz actually trails nine points to a spot in the pick-round. First Dornbirn had to balance the game twice, as Tomi Körkkö gave the Bulldogs the first lead. Soon later Graz tied it at three, while Simeon Schwinger potted the game winner less than two minutes left.
