Last week, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps were crowned Alps Hockey League champion for the first time since the 2016/17 season. With KHL Sisak from Croatia, a new team has joined the multinational league.

This means that teams from four different nations will take part in the 2024/25 Alps Hockey League season for the first time. KHL Sisak is a club from the city of Sisak, south of Zagreb, with a population of 48,000. The club was founded in 1934 as ŠK Slavija and has been playing under the name KHL Sisak since 2010. In recent years, the Croatians have competed in the Slovenian IHL, where HK RST Pellet Celje also played until they joined the Alps Hockey League in 2023. In the past season, Sisak advanced to the semifinals of the IHL.

AHL Managing Director Christian Feichtinger: "I am very pleased that 14 teams will be participating in the Alps Hockey League in the coming season and that the Alps Hockey League product has been expanded to an interesting market with the addition of KHL Sisak. Hockey is very popular in Sisak and in Croatia in general, so I am convinced that the league will experience an additional upswing as a result of the expansion and that new exciting sporting duels will emerge."

New game mode for the 2024/25 season
KHL Sisak and the other thirteen teams in the league will start the new season on Saturday, September 21, in a new format. Each team will play 39 games in the Regular Season, meaning three games against each club. After that, the top five teams are guaranteed a place in the playoffs, while the teams in sixth to eleventh place play in Pre-Playoffs for the remaining three quarterfinal tickets. The separation into a Master and Qualification Round will therefore no longer take place in the coming season.
